A Saturday to remember for the Race for RP, and an incredible race fielding three professional drivers representing relapsing polychondritis and autoimmune disease awareness in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge at Watkins Glenn International Raceway. We are thrilled to announce two podium finishes, with duo Jeff Westphal and Tyler McQuarrie claiming P3 in the GS class. And back on the podium is recently announced Race for RP driver , Jon Morley, along with Gavin Ernstone finishing P3 in the TCR class.
It was a true test of perseverance at the Tioga Downs Casino Resort 240, a tough and highly competitive four hour race supporting tomorrow’s Six Hours of Sahlen, WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Michelin Endurance Cup. Today, we saw everything from compelling team strategies and challenging conditions to uncompromising competition at every stage of the race.
In the end it was Westphal in the No. 39 Carbahn Autoworks / Peregrine Racing Audi R8 GT4 with a well deserved P3 podium finish. And Jon Morley in the No. 61 Road Shagger Racing Audi RS3, finishing on the podium again in the TCR class after a decisive last 30 mins.
Kyle Marcelli, Race for RP brand ambassador and autoimmune disease Awareness Champion didn’t podium, but it was a truly memorable and equally intense performance. Marcelli ran a solid P5 throughout crucial points in the race featured throughout the broadcast on IMSA.tv and raised the bar in driving awareness and accelerating research for autoimmune diseases and relapsing polychondritis, flying the Race for RP brand on the wing of the No. 60 KohR Motorsports Forgeline Ford Mustang GT4 for everyone to see.
Race for RP, which has come such a long way in a short time, is so grateful for all of the drivers and teams who show such genuine support of the program.
